Cardiologist Dr. Rahul Aggarwal Weighs in on New Guidelines for Statin Therapy

Those ever-present drug commercials advise viewers to talk to their doctor before considering a medication.

That advice is particularly sage when it comes to cholesterol-lowering drugs, following a recent recommendation from two top heart-health organizations. If heeded, revised risk assessment guidelines from the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology theoretically could add an estimated 30 million or more Americans to the number of adults already take statins to prevent cardiovascular disease.
